Yoga for Dudes with Kevin Jones

Dates: January 8, 15 & 22, 2013
Duration: 1.5 hours (each session)
Timing: 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Fee: $75 in advance for all three or $30 per session

A three-part yoga series targeted for and taught by men. The course is progressive and participants must attend the three classes in sequence. The course assumes that the participants are of average conditioning with little or no yoga experience. Students will learn modifications of poses unique to men, as well as physical poses that require different challenges for the male body. Specifically for athletic men who are strong, but not flexible.

Q & A’s:
Q. Why should I take a class with all dudes?
A. Because most beginner classes are targeted towards women’s bodies, which, news flash, are a lot different. If you’re an athletic guy, your power ratio is high and your flexibility ratio is seriously low, which is usually the opposite for most women starting yoga. Since 99% of beginner classes are attended by women and are taught by women (completely unscientific poll), that’s who they naturally target.

Q. Why three classes and not just one?
A. I believe that proper repetition is the key to learning. Three classes is enough of a commitment to ensure that you may see some shift in this time, but not too much of a commitment to scare you away or make you feel that you’re locked in to something you’re not sure about.

Q. Will there be any women?
A. Seriously bro, read the title.

Q. Will there be SportsCenter on?
A. Don’t know, we have to override the serenity waves background program.

Ayurveda Cookery Course with Elisabeth Jaeger

Elisabeth Jaeger of The Sri Sri Ayurveda Institute in Canada will bring this course to DC in time for the holidays! The fabulous intensive workshop takes you deep into the knowledge and practice of Ayurvedic cooking in just 6 sessions over 4 days.
4- Day Workshop: Friday, November 9 (6:30-9:30pm); Saturday & Sunday, November 10&11 (10am-5pm); Monday, November 12th (6:30-9:30pm)

The course is for everyone who wants to invigorate their life--whether you are new to a vegetarian diet, looking to liven-up your long-standing veggie meals, or just to add a few more vegetarian meals to your week!

Each day we will cook and learn how the ancient knowledge from India of Ayurveda ("the Study of Life") interweaves body types, nutrition and the five elements into delectable, life-supporting foods. Ayurvedic health principles promote healing, balance, and a calm mind. Just to “wet your appetite” some of the topics include:

•What’s my body type? What unique tastes do I need for balance?
•What food will give me a perk? Calm the mind? How do I get out of lethargy?
•What’s the deal with proteins?
•What causes disease in the body?
•What creates health?
•What’s for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?
This Course has been taught all over the world. It’s tried and true and brings a powerful tool that complements other life-enhancing practices such as yoga, breathing techniques, and meditation. Come join us for what will be an enriching and delicious six session class!

Happy 1st Birthday

Dear friends,

Thank you for a wonderful year of yoga and learning. As Meridian Yoga celebrates its first birthday, we recognize that we could not have come this far without the invaluable encouragement and appreciation that you – our patrons – have bestowed upon us. Thank you!

One year ago, on June 12, 2011, we opened our doors to the public with one mission -- providing a yoga buffet. We wanted our resident yogis to discover the style of yoga that best suited them. Gradually yoga classes were complemented by specialized workshops, including the very popular “Breathe. Meditate. Rejuvenate” program. More than 2500 customers have attended our classes and workshops in the past year, and positive word of mouth reviews have resulted in increased traffic as the months go by. Meridian Yoga was also an active participant in the Natural Health Festival and DC Yoga Week.

Success does not come in solitude. Our clients have, by taking the time to provide their invaluable feedback, ensured that Meridian Yoga has been able to continually reinvent itself to become a pillar of DC’s yoga community. And of course, none of this would have been possible without our fantastic teachers, employees and volunteers, each of who have been unfailing in their understanding and efforts. On behalf of the Studio management, we thank each of you for your support, and look forward to celebrating another wonderful year of yogic success with you.

Sincerely,
Meridian Yoga Management Team
